Download FAQ

Everything you need to know about download speed limits, link expiry, and how to get the fastest ROM downloads.

Question 1

Why is my download being limited or slow?

We host ROMs on high-performance global servers with massive bandwidth — which is why our download speeds are faster than most other sites. Unfortunately, this has attracted abuse from automated bots and third-party sites scraping our content at scale, causing a significant spike in bandwidth costs.

To protect the service for everyone, we apply automatic connection limits when unusually high download activity is detected from a single IP address.

Question 2

How does the rate limiting work?

For normal users downloading a handful of games — even a few at the same time — you are very unlikely to hit any limits.

The system watches for patterns consistent with automated downloading: dozens of requests in a short window, missing browser fingerprints, or unusual request patterns. If detected, your IP is temporarily throttled for a few minutes, or up to one hour in repeat cases.

Download links are also time-limited for security. If you leave a page open for several hours before clicking Download, the link may have expired and you will need to refresh the page to get a fresh one.

Question 3

Why does it say my request was blocked?

We only serve downloads to visitors coming directly from our official website. Requests arriving from third-party sites, browser extensions that strip referrer headers, or direct URL access (e.g. bookmarked download links) may be blocked.

Make sure you are downloading from our official site: emulator-games.org. There are many copycat sites that scrape our links — always check the address bar first. We automatically limit or block any download request that did not originate from our official domain.

Question 4

What can I do if I am being rate-limited?

Wait and retry
Limits are temporary — usually a few minutes. Take a break and try again shortly.
Change your IP address
Because limits are applied per IP, getting a new IP instantly clears the restriction. The easiest ways: restart your Wi-Fi router/modem (most ISPs assign a fresh IP on reconnect), or connect through a VPN.
Download one file at a time
Avoid queuing many simultaneous downloads. Download games one by one to stay well within normal usage patterns.
